Berlin, Vt – “Dr. Knapp is a welcome addition to Central Vermont Medical Center’s staff,” said Judy Tartaglia, president and CEO. “He has a strong background from the work he did in Wisconsin, which encompassed both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry.”
Dr. Knapp received his Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology and Zoology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He went on to earn his M.D. at the University of Wisconsin – Madison Medical School. A native Wisconsinite, Dr. Knapp left Wisconsin for his Psychiatric Residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
His most recent position was as a Psychiatrist at The Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisconsin. There Dr. Knapp was Medical Director of Psychotherapy Services and Vice-Chair of the Psychiatry Department, and he was also active in Medical Student Education. He worked in outpatient psychiatry, Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), and was part-time inpatient treatment director at the Norwood Health Center, a County Psychiatric Hospital, in Marshfield.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he was active in the Wisconsin Psychiatric Association, serving as a member of the Executive Council.
Dr. Knapp enjoyed his time in New Hampshire and Vermont during residency. His wife, Tamara is from Sunapee, New Hampshire and they had always had thoughts of moving back to northern New England. Dr. Knapp has friends from Dartmouth who have worked at CVMC and commented on the quality of care and the congeniality of the staff.
Dr. Knapp enjoys mountain and road biking, skiing, backpacking, hiking and reading. He and his wife and their three dogs – two Chesapeakes and a Lab/Border Collie mix – have settled in Barre.
