When a patient receives a diagnosis of cancer, it is very typical that they (and their families) immediately want to find out as much information about their diagnosis as possible. This area of our website has some basic information about different types of cancers, as well as the treatment options available at UVMHN-CVMC. To get a full view of all of the surgicial, medical oncology and radiation therapy services we offer, we encourage you to also look through all of the information in the Cancer Care area of our website.
At CVMC we also have a Cancer Resource Room that you are welcome to use. As always, we encourage you to talk to your doctor or nurse about any concerns or questions you may have.
Screening Guidelines
Health screenings are a way to detect serious medical problems before they become costly and life-threatening. At UVMHN-CVMC we support the concept of screening for disease, encourage you to discuss appropriate screenings with your doctor, and take advantage of free community screening we periodically offer.

Breast Care
Among Vermont women, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death, after lung cancer. The key to increasing a woman’s chances of long term survival is early detection through regular breast self-exams, clinical breast exams, and mammograms.
