Berlin, Vt. – The University of Vermont Health Network – Central Vermont Medical Center’s cancer program is partnering with the Vermont Cancer Survivor Network (VCSN) to offer a new cancer support group serving the Mad River Valley. The first monthly meeting will be on Wednesday, March 23 at 6 p.m. at Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce at 4061 Main Street in Waitsfield, Vt. The support group will continue to meet the fourth Wednesday of every month.
The meeting will feature a presentation by UVM Health Network – CVMC dietitian, Sue Johansen, about Nutrition for Cancer Survivorship. It will also include a potluck supper and time for discussion. Participants will be encouraged to share their cancer experiences if they desire.
“After working in the community, it became clear to me that families in this area could really benefit from more support,” said Kate Anderson, UVM Health Network – CVMC Family Medicine Mad River community health coordinator. “I was happy that VCSN and CVMC could collaborate to serve this need and forge these connections between people.”
The group is open to anyone affected by cancer. Organizers of the group include Sharon Kellermann and Henry Erickson, cancer survivors and volunteers with the Vermont Cancer Survivor Network, and Theresa Lever, Cancer Care Patient Navigator at UVM Health Network – CVMC.
