“I am constantly fascinated by what I see around me. I do not try to duplicate what I see, but make my own interpretation.”
“When people ask me, What kind of art do you make? I answer, I do everything. From painting, drawing, sculpture and assemblage, using all kinds of mediums, I am able to move between the lines of recognizable and abstract images, and feel the freedom to go in all kinds of different directions.”
Axel exhibits extensively throughout Maine and Vermont.
Education: Massachusetts College of Art and Design, MA (BFA)
Axel also studied at the School of Visual Arts, NY, 1970; and the Art Institute of Boston, MA, 1970
Residencies: Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Deer Isle, ME, 2014;
Basin Harbor Artists in Residence, Vergennes, VT, 2003;
Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT, four residencies 1980-2003
