The Sports Therapy program offered by CVMC Rehabilitation Therapy is for physically-active individuals of any age who are working to return to an active lifestyle after an injury.
Our physical therapists work one on one with the client, engaging them in sport specific activities and exercises progressing towards a return to their sport. The program can be implemented in any phase of healing after injury.
Enrollment in the program requires medical clearance from the client's physician/surgeon, and includes injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement.
From prevention to performance enhancements, the CVMC sports physical therapy program is focused on keeping you active and healthy!
Injury Prevention
Preventative measures in the form of running clinics, functional movement screens, pre-activity participation screens, ski/ride conditioning programs, and cardiovascular fitness programs are geared towards decreasing risk for injury and allowing for continued participation in physical activities.
Evaluation and Rehabilitation
Evaluation and rehabilitation of injured individuals involves one-on-one work with a physical therapist to first control painful symptoms using a variety of exercise and non-exercise interventions.
Performance Enhancement
Once pain is controlled, more extensive work can be done to correct faulty movement patterns and musculoskeletal imbalances. Often these factors contribute to injury and can increase risk for re-injury. These corrections allow individuals to return to sports and other activities safely. Many times, correcting movement patterns and musculoskeletal imbalances provide the basis for performance enhancement.
After sport-specific cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, agility, and power testing, the physical therapist can implement a training plan to help improve upon deficits and facilitate performance enhancements. Follow-up testing can determine the need for changes in the training program.
Our Advanced Solutions
Our patients have access to some of the most advanced treatments, screening and training equipment available in the field of sports therapy today.
Athletic Training Zone
The enlarged sports therapy gym at our 1311 Barre-Montpelier Road facility features a new athletic training zone with a large Astro Turf that allows for sports-specific training and rehab, functional movement screenings, and more.
AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill
The AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill uses air pressure to reduce the effect of gravity/weight on lower body joints. This allows you to walk or run without hip, knee or foot pain and helps to normalize your gait pattern. All you need are a pair of indoor supportive shoes and comfortable pants or shorts and you can try it out! If you don’t have pain and want to see what it feels like to run at a faster pace with ease, try it out!
Slow Motion Video Gait Analysis
Video is taken from multiple angles with you running or walking and then reviewed with you frame-by-frame allowing for analysis of your running or walking form. We will look at the alignment of your hips, knees, and ankles as you run or walk and will compare your left and right sides. Any form deficits will be identified and possible causes will be explained. Basic strategies to correct form deficits will also be provided.
Noraxon Treadmill
The Noraxon Treadmill has force plates built into its deck and is connected to video cameras and a computer, allowing therapists to analyze your walking or running gait in 30 seconds. Using this system, therapists can also measure and track joint angles at rest and in motion. Standing balance and weight distribution during static or dynamic activities such as squats and lunges can also be assessed; this information can be particularly helpful to therapists in determining orthotic needs.
Dry Needling
Dry Needling is a highly effective form of physical therapy for the treatment of a multitude of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions. By inserting a very fine filament needle into the deeper tissues that are considered trigger points to your pain, dry needling enhances the body’s ability to heal.
FMS (Functional Movement Screen)
FMS is a screening tool used to identify weaknesses or asymmetries in fundamental movement patterns that are key to quality functional movement.
