Arthritis Rehabilitation

Physical and Occupational Therapy can be very helpful for people living with arthritis. At CVMC Rehabilitation Therapy, our goal with both of these therapies is to get our patients back to a point where they can perform their daily activities with less difficulty and pain.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy focuses on exercise and education that allow a patient to regain range of motion and strengthen muscles surrounding affected joints so they may resume activities of daily living. Physical therapy treatment may also include the use of cold and hot packs, as well as deep ultrasound treatments that may reduce joint pain and inflammation.

Some patients also benefit from Aquatic Therapy where they can comfortably regain joint range of motion and muscle strength in a therapeutic pool. To find out more about our Aquatic Therapy program, click here.

Patient education regarding the balance of rest and exercise can help a person get on the road to recovery and activity again.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy can assist patients with arthritis through education regarding energy conservation, joint protection and splinting if necessary. Our occupational therapists can provide instruction in the use of assistive devices that may make daily activities like dressing, writing and cooking easier and less stressful on painful joints. Our occupational therapists also use modalities and exercises to facilitate function in daily skills
